Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything): 2 months on an 883 Harley Sportster by myself. 10,000 miles, no fairings or windshield or hotels. 22 years old.
SlamdogMillionaire : I spent two months riding around the country last summer by myself, meeting and staying with old friends along the way or camping under the shade of my bike. Did all the maintenance myself, ate one sandwich a day to save money, and generally lived the dream. No camera, No cellphone, no internet cafes, MP3 player, music or anything. Best Time of my life.
Highlights: Between Austin and phoenix, I didn’t sleep or take anymore than a 30 minute break. That’s 1,000 miles total, it took 24 hours.
In California I went through Yosemite park, one of the most beautiful rides I’ve been on except for highway 1 up the west coast. I wiped out in Yosemite in a blind turn on a small unmaintained mountain pass due to a huge gravel patch in the road. Bike was fucked up but I rode it out and got it to my old folks house and spent a week fixing it.
Made sure to get to austin for the “Chaos In Tejas” punk festival. Saw Punk music in almost every city I stayed in.
